IG: The Set Up… #corework The plank seems like the easiest position to get into, but it’s the most insufficiently performed exercise. I like to use the 90-90 reference when guiding clients into calibrating their form. (Gray Cook) If you “lock” the wrist (motion of opening a jar- this also takes pressure off your palm and distributes the pressure evenly across your hand), the elbow automatically engages and locks, which then instigates the shoulder to engage and stabilize. When those regions activate correctly, the thoracolumbar fascia (low back fascia) tightens as well. That one initial step becomes the catalyst to a series of joint stability as your body prepares for load. Try this, even if you are just on your knees. Feel the way your entire upper torso engages. You even feel stronger with this setup. By the time you add in lifting your knees off the ground into full plank, because your lumbar fascia is activated, the core will brace naturally and place you in proper form. Calibrate again, am I 90-90?? In massage therapy, knowing where your energy is as a therapist is vital in being able to openly hear and understand the clients’ concerns. This post is to simply highlight a point we all know to be true but simply gets lost amidst our daily “hang ups”. Be in tune with yourself, and be open to understanding where your fellow beings are coming from instead of impulsively reacting. My travels have been opening my eyes as to what’s really important in life’s interactions.

The very first step in Thai Massage is the acknowledgement of each individual present.

During my travels I noticed that if this step wasn’t taken in any form of communication, nothing beneficial could develop.

I learnt that communication is an integral part of relationship building, even if you are simply trying to buy 🍞 from a convenient store in China.🙈😩 (’twas a MISSION!)
